October 22, 2026
In Cornwall, Halloween 2026 runs over two weekends. The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum trail and the Main Street Spooktacular, both run by local groups, land on October 24 and 25. Halloween itself falls on a Saturday this year, and that day belongs to the Storm King Art Center, which holds its costume event in the Meadows. If you wait for the 31st, you miss most of what Cornwall puts on for its own kids.
The first event is this Saturday, October 24. Here is the order, and what each stop asks of you before you go.
| Date | Event | Where | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat., Oct. 24 | iSPY Halloween Nature Trail | Outdoor Discovery Campus, 120 Muser Drive | $10 per person, ages 3 and up |
| Sun., Oct. 25 | Cornwall Halloween Spooktacular | Cornwall Chamber event | No price listed |
| Sat., Oct. 31 | Halloween Costume Spectacular | Storm King Art Center, near the Outdoor Café | Free with admission |
The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum runs its iSPY Halloween Nature Trail from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Campus, 120 Muser Drive. The museum calls it no-scare. Families walk the trail looking for hidden objects, and anyone who finds them all gets a prize. Afterward there are live animals to meet at the Creature Corner.
This is the one stop of the week that runs on a schedule. Groups start every half hour, and the rules are strict.
Costumes are encouraged. The museum gave the 2026 trail its own theme, "Dr. Fantastic's Traveling Menagerie," and the listing opens with this rhyme:
There's Halloween fun for the whole family! Find hidden items along the trail, Meet friendly creatures and learn their tale!
Because entry is timed, the trail fits neatly into a Saturday. Book a late-morning slot and you finish with most of the afternoon open, plus a costume that has had a test run before Sunday.
The next afternoon is the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce's Halloween Spooktacular. Sources list two different times. The Chamber's events calendar shows 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Cornwall Newsletter's event listing shows 3 to 5 p.m. Either way, arriving by 3 puts you inside both windows. Families planning around a nap or a ride should check with the Chamber before Sunday.
Neither 2026 listing describes the program. The fullest description is the Chamber's page for the 2024 Spooktacular, which ran 3 to 5 p.m. on a Sunday that October. That year the event was on Main Street, with trick-or-treating and crafts along the street. The Howl & Prowl parade started near Torrey Lane and headed up Main Street toward the Circle. Costume contest prizes went to children, families or groups, and pets. That was 2024's format. The 2026 version may look similar, but nothing published yet promises it.
Sunday is the day the Chamber's members are on the street. On the 24th, the Nature Museum hosts. On the 31st, an art center hosts. The Spooktacular is the only Halloween stop this year that takes place on Cornwall's own main street.
Six days after the Spooktacular, the costumes move to the Meadows. Storm King Art Center's Halloween Costume Spectacular runs noon to 3 p.m. on Halloween, starting near the Outdoor Café. It is meant for all ages, it is free with admission, and you don't need to register.
The afternoon has two parts. From noon to 2 p.m., the Costume Factory is open. Artist and performer Erica Enriquez helps visitors build cardboard costumes at stations stocked with locally sourced, recyclable materials, and adults are as welcome as children. From 2 to 3 p.m., Enriquez hosts a runway walk through the Meadows. She was born in Newburgh and now works out of Queens. She studied sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University School of the Arts, and she also conducts CHOO CHOO, a rock band built around New York City's No. 1 train.
That builds on the week before. If your family made costumes for the Nature Museum trail and wore them again on Main Street, they get a third outing here. Anyone who skipped costumes the first weekend can make one from cardboard on site.
The Main Street event doesn't need a ticket. Storm King does, and on Halloween it is the step most worth handling early. The art center's ticket page says advance tickets are essential to guarantee admission and parking, and walk-up tickets may be limited or unavailable for some time slots.
The cost depends on the day:
For a Cornwall family with teenagers or college students, that third rule means an Orange County student with ID gets in free on Halloween.
October weekend hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with final entry at 5 p.m. On weekdays the grounds open at 10 a.m. Storm King is closed every Tuesday. The costume program ends at 3, which leaves time for a walk before the gates close.
The day after Halloween, Storm King's hours get shorter. In November the grounds are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday, and the center is closed on Thanksgiving. With an earlier close and earlier sunsets, November visits will be shorter than October ones. Peak weekend pricing ends after November 8.
The Nature Museum's next big weekend falls right after Thanksgiving. Welcome Winter Weekend runs November 27 through 29, noon to 4 p.m., at the Wildlife Education Campus. Members get in free, and nonmembers pay $5 per person age 3 and up. The three days include guided hikes and activities themed around bears and squirrels. The Chamber's next public dates are the American Legion Post 353 Veterans Day listing on November 11 and the Chamber Holiday Party on December 8 at 5:30 p.m.
